We live in Texas and have a west-facing back door. We bought the Extreme Weather Door because I wanted to limit the amount of air that passes through. After 4 years of 100+ degree summers, and a couple of freezing winters, the door is still holding up. I have only recently considered buying a replacement flap for the outside as it has started to warp. But, even though the outside flap is not longer a complete seal, the inside flap still works perfectly. We also used the plastic screws that came with the kit, and have had no problems. If you're not a huge fan of the plastic screws, you can just buy some metal ones from the hardware store (which I did on a previous dog door). We now have a tiny dog that can't make it out the big dog door, so I will be purchasing a second small Extreme Weather Door to install alongside the big one.
